Pilates
The Method
The Pilates method includes hundreds of exercises, based either on the mat or on special Pilates resistance equipment. It focuses on strengthening the core muscles of the body—those involving the abdomen, buttocks and spine. Crucial to Pilates are six key principles: Centering, Concentration, Control, Precision, Breath and Flow.
The Results
When taught correctly, Pilates can result in improved posture, a minimization of back pain, increased strength and flexibility, a sense of control and improved function in sports and daily activities.

Pilates While Pregnant
Leah
Leah kept up with her Pilates throughout her pregnancy. With the help of Barbara’s modifictions she didn’t have to miss out on the enjoyment and benefits of her chosen exercise regime. Seen in these photos she is 37.5 weeks along. As a result of keeping up with her Pilates training she had a short and trouble free labor.
“Thanks to my pilates at Barbara’s studio I was able to get through a 21 hour birth completely naturally and unmedicated, which was always my goal. My training at the studio prepared my body for the big event! Also, at 12 days post birth I only have 11 more lbs. of “baby weight” to lose – another pilates bonus in my book!”
Both mother and little Evan are healthy and happy. And best of all, she has only 11 pounds to loose to reach her pre-pregnancy weight. Wow. Congratulations Leah!
Nancy
Nancy has been training with Barbara for over 5 years. In these pictures she is just days from giving birth to her second child. Seen in pink, Nancy is only 6 weeks after delivering Gweneth. “The baby weight is gone in no time.”
Women who are already doing Pilates can continue their exercises while pregnant with some modifications. Pilates stimulates all the right muscle groups. Deliveries are faster, easier, and less stressful on the newborn. And as far as getting back to your target fitness level, well these pictures speak for themselves.
Congratulations Mothers!
